B de Basilio Blanco
D.O.Ca Rioja, Spain
Bodegas Basilio

Winery
Basilio is one of Spain's most brilliant winemakers. In 2006 he started a personal project by himself, a winery space in the town of Laguardia within the Rioja Alavesa section of Rioja. His goal: to explore some of the lost art of Rioja winemaking in conjunction with his knowledge of the latest techniques and materials. In that first year his white wine production consisted of one new French oak barrel. Since then he has expanded to an annual production of about 5000 bottles of barrel aged red and 700 bottles of barrel fermented white.

Tasting Note
The barrel-fermented white 2012 B de Basilio is a blend of Malvasía Riojana with 30% Viura kept for nine months in contact with the lees. It's very mineral, with strong aromas, mixing diesel-like notes with balsamic ones, hints of herbal tea and a mix of white and yellow fruit. The oak is perfectly integrated and the palate feels very balance, with clean, pungent flavors and great acidity. I love this white. It should develop nicely in bottle.
